Album der Woche, Folge 166: Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill(1986)

"Licensed To Ill" ist das Debütalbum des Brooklyner Raptrios und somit der Anfang ihrer Rapkarriere. Bevor sie HipHop gemacht haben waren die Beastie Boys eine fünfköpfige Punkband. Ihr damaligen Ergüsse kann man auf dem Sampler "Some Ol' Bullshit" anhören. Dass die Beasties irgendwas mit Rockmusik zu tun hatten, hört man. Nicht nur daran, dass bei "No Sleep Till

Brooklyn" Kerry King von Slayer gefeaturet wird oder dass "Fight For Your Right" über Gitarren berappt ist, nein. Die Stimmen von King Ad Rock, Mike D und MCA sind schrill, laut und versoffen. Sie hätten damals immer noch ne gute Hardcore-Punk-Band sein können, was sie später immer wieder bewiesen haben("Sabotage", "Tough Guy" oder die EP "Aglio e Oglio").

Das von Rick Rubin(Slayer, Danzig, Johnny Cash) produzierte Meisterwerk war das erste reine HipHop-Album was die Spitze der Billboard-Charts erreicht hat. Es bietet uns ein Haufen Blödsinn. Die Beasties werden in "Rhymin' and Stealin" zu Piraten. In "Paul Revere" wird eine seltsame Herkunftsgeschichte der Band erzählt. "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" ist eine Parodie auf Hair Metal, während "(You Gotha)Fight For Your Right(To Party)" eine Parodie auf "rebellische" Hard Rock Songs wie "Smoking' in the boys room" ist. Das hat aber glaub ich nie jemand wirklich verstanden. Weiterhin bietet das Album den Song "The New Style", mit folgender Zeile:

"Let me clear my throat

kick it over here baby pop

And let all the fly skimmies feel the beat

Mmmm....drop!"

Das berühmte "Mmmm...drop!" wurde immerwieder verwendet. Zum Beispiel von Pharcyde in "Drop" oder aber auch ein paar Mal von BB selbst, z.B. in "Intergalactic".

Bemerkenswert ist auch die Einstellung der Band zu Frauen. Während es hier in "Girls" noch heißt:

"Girls - to do the dishes

Girls - to clean up my room

Girls - to do the laundry

GIrls - and in the bathroom

Girls - that's all I really want is girls

Two at a time - I want girls"

klingt die Band Jahre später auf dem Album "Ill Communication" komplett anders:

"I want to say a little something that's long

Overdue

The disrespect to women has got to be through

To all the mothers and sisters and the

Wives and friends

I want to offer my love and respect to the

End"
